2016 Olympics ‘will benefit commerce and industry in Rio de Janeiro’
Hosting the Olympic Games in 2016 will lead to major benefits for commerce and industry in the city, which is good news for those with Brazilian property in Rio.
Luis Avillez, president of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, claims various sectors will reap the rewards the event will bring and added that the organisation is fully behind the bid to bring the spectacle to South America.
Following a presentation to members of the chamber, Mr Avillez said: "The aim of explaining the city’s Olympic plans to our members was fully achieved … The games will benefit many sectors in the city and will result in major advances for commerce and industry."
Carlos Osorio, secretary general of the Rio 2016 bid, said the backing from the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce is a big plus and could help the city secure the event, those considering purchasing Brazilian property in Rio will be interested to hear.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism and the National Bank of Economic and Social Development is to inject up to $160 million (£95.2 million) into Rio de Janeiro’s hotel industry for refurbishment projects.
