Brazil ‘emerging stronger than neighbours’
Brazil is emerging from the global economic downturn on more stable ground than its neighbours, one expert stated.
Thomas Trebat, writing for RGE Monitor, said that countries like the US, Argentina and Mexico cannot "aspire to the global role which seems to be within Brazil’s grasp".
He added that Brazil can play an important role in a number of international policies, such as the International Monetary Fund and post-Kyoto discussions on climate change.
The country will also be important in the global energy market and development of its pre-salt crude reserves.
Mr Trebat wrote for the source that Brazil’s closer integration with other nations between 2003 and 2008 has led to increased trade with China, a rise in multi-national firms and an rise in agribusiness.
Brazil’s economy has recently been boosted by the news that US retail giant Walmart is to increase its investment in the country and open 90 new stores.
