Brazil good retirement destination
Brazil has been highlighted as a good retirement destination by property experts.
The north-eastern region of the Latin American country has been praised for its low cost of living, affordable house prices and established "familiar European retirement community".
Rhiannon Williamson, director of independent property experts Amberlamb, said: "[Brazil] is off the beaten track among those who seek a familiar European retirement community, but it has long been popular with those who like to travel a little further afield away from the maddening crowd!"
She added: "The cost of living is so much lower, the standard of living is improving rapidly, property prices remain affordable…and as a result the number of retirees considering their options and examining Brazil is highly likely to rise."
A second airport is due to open in San Gonzalvo in the north-eastern region by 2010 and is expected to be the fourth largest airport in the world.
Increasing numbers of direct flight links to Brazil from around the globe could provide a boost to the tourist industry which is currently growing at a rate of 7.2 per cent.
