Brazil is a medical tourism hotspot
Brazil has been touted as a hotspot for the growing phenomenon of medical tourism.
The Latin American nation has been named the second best place in the world for medical tourism, after Argentina, due to its excellent healthcare facilities, good weather and sandy beaches.
HealthNewsDigest writes: "[Brazil] – where the cosmetic surgery craze was born [has] over 5,000 plastic surgeons – as many as in the USA.
"The Brazilians are world class surgeons and with 3,000 miles of beaches, their bodywork is some of the best to be found."
Medical tourism has evolved due to the "exploding" cost of private healthcare in the US which has inspired Americans to travel abroad for treatment, where it is more affordable.
This growing trend may be good news for property investors as those on so-called medical vacations will need properties to rent during their stay, making the buy-to-let market in Brazil a lucrative prospect.
According to the Brazilian tourist board, Embratur, holiday tourism in the country is growing at a rate of 7.2 per cent annually.
