Brazil to benefit as holidaymakers seek winter sun
Brazil could benefit this holiday season as industry experts predict travellers will head off to locations with guaranteed sunshine.
The Association of British Travel Agents (Abta), which represents over 6,000 travel agencies and 850 tour operations throughout the British Isles, claims that Brits travelling abroad over the festive season will boycott cities in favour of more exotic locations.
Sean Tipton, a spokesperson for ABTA, said: "Short city breaks aren’t really that popular around [December and January]. [Furthermore] people going away at Christmas aren’t really aiming for cities, they are looking for winter sun."
Last year Abta predicted a boom in tourism for Brazil following the release of popular film Love in the Time of Cholera, which was recently filmed in South America.
The Brazilian tourist board, Embratur, reported that tourism in the Latin American country grew by 7.2 per cent last year – a rate which exceeds the world average.
October and August saw record amounts of foreign travellers visit the nation which boasts golden beaches, sunshine and a rich culture.
An increase in tourism could have a positive impact on Brazil’s property market, as a growing number of tourists in holiday hotspots could increase rental demand and value.
