Brazilian airline expands its fleet
Brazilian airline Gol has expanded it and partner airline Varig’s fleet to one hundred aircraft, with the delivery of a new Boeing 737-800 SFP.
A variant of the Boeing 737, the 737-800 was developed especially for use at Brazil’s busy Rio de Janiero Santos Dumont and Sao Paulo’s Congonhas airports – both of which have very short runways.
“Our main concern is providing customers with a high-quality, safe way to travel throughout Brazil, South America and, with the addition of Varig, new markets in Europe and North America,” said Gol’s vice president Fernando Rockert de Magalhaes.
The expansion of Brazil’s domestic airlines is a key factor in the opening up of the country to more and more foreign investment. Improving infrastructure quality and communication links have the ability to tap into the vast potential of the country, making remote areas more accessible from the big coastal cities.
Gol intends to add twelve more aircraft to its fleet by the end of 2008.
