Brazilian car sales up nearly 2% in first half of April
Vehicle sales in Brazil were up in the first two weeks of April, rising by 1.27 per cent compared the month before, according to the latest figures.
The National Motor Vehicles Dealership Federation revealed that most of the growth came from higher car sales, as trade of pick-up trucks declined, Dow Jones newswires reports.
Car transactions were up 1.99 per cent during the first two weeks of April to 98,242 units, while light truck sales fell by 1.84 per cent to 21,676 units.
International manufacturers such as Fiat and Volkswagen are relying on the Brazilian market to buffer their lagging trade elsewhere in the world, the news provider reports.
However, Jackson Schneider, president of the Brazilian Automotive Manufacturers Association, warned that sales are unlikely to reach the heady heights of last month’s 30 per cent rise.
Last week, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics revealed that retail sales in Brazil were up by 1.5 per cent between January and February.
