Brazilian international departures up 3.5 per cent in April

The number of international departures from Brazilian airports rose by 3.5 per cent in April, the latest figures reveal.

According to the Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), flights out of the country rose year-on-year, with the volume of passengers also up slightly, which could be good news for Brazilian property investors.

Domestic departures were also up slightly last month, rising by two per cent, ANAC reported.

TAM and Gol continue their dominance of the Brazilian aviation market, with the former accounting for 86 per cent of international flights.

In terms of domestic departures, the two airlines have an 88 per cent share of the sector, according to the figures from ANAC.

Last month, TAM announced that it had signed a codesharing deal with British carrier bmi in order to expand the available services for passengers travelling between Brazil and the UK.

Under the agreement, passengers will benefit from access to simplified flight reservation procedures and connections using just one ticket.
