Brazilian president most popular in Americas
Brazil’s president is the most popular in the Americas with a 70 per cent approval rating, according to the latest figures.
Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is the top-rated leader followed by Columbia’s Alavro Uribe, who has 69 per cent support from his population, followed by Felipe Calderon of Mexico on 68 per cent and El Salvador’s Atonio Saca on 66 per cent, according to Mercopress.
The Brazilian president even tops the US leader Barack Obama, whose approval rating stands at 61 per cent.
Mr Lula da Silva falls into the "outstanding" category, according to Mexican pollster Consulta Mitofsky’s system, while Mr Obama is in the "high" class.
Other leaders falling in this category are Fernando Lugo from Paraguay, Michelle Bachelet of Chile and Ecaudor’s Rafael Correa, according to the news provider.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian president called for tougher regulation of global financial systems at the World Economic Forum on Latin America this week.
