Brazil’s ‘gold towns’ have Midas touch
Brazil’s "gold towns" have the Midas touch with tourists according to new reports.
The towns have been named as one of Brazil’s most enduring attractions in a new list of the best Latin American hotspots for travellers.
Australasian travel industry newsletter E-travel Blackboard highlighted Brazil’s Minas Gerais’ gold towns, which have a rich gold-based history, as one of the most interesting destinations tourists in South America can visit.
The news provider added that the area is set to experience a new tourist rush and the towns are "really set to catch the eye in 2008".
Other Latin American destinations in the top ten included Belize, Guatemala and Nicaragua.
Many tourists visiting Brazil opt for the north-east region of the country where there is a wealth of golden beaches.
The region of Natal is easily accessible to Europeans and boasts one of the shortest flight connection times from Brazil to Portugal in the country.
A new airport is also planned for the area which when finished in 2010 will be the fourth largest airport in the world.
