Brazil’s modern wonder of the world
Brazilian real estate could be set to benefit from recent recognition in a tourism poll for one of the nation’s most famous landmarks.
Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer statue has been placed third in Halifax Travel Insurance’s The New Top Ten Modern Wonders of the World survey.
Following a UK-wide poll of 2,000 holidaymakers, the insurance provider discovered the familiar Rio sight is a "likely draw for holidaymakers".
The statue was beaten to the top spot by the Sydney Opera House and Paris’ iconic Eiffel Tower, which occupied first and second place respectively.
According to the firm, 45 per cent of those polled said their choice of favourite landmark was due to their "admiration of contemporary architecture", while 17 per cent gave film and TV appearances as a reason.
In other news, it was reported by Agencia Brasil that sports minister Orlando Silva believes the nation would benefit hugely from millions of visitors as well as infrastructural improvements should it win the right to host the 2016 Olympic Games – things which could both benefit Brazilian property.
