The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) has confirmed 12 Brazilian cities will play host to the World Cup in 2014.
Sepp Blatter, president of Fifa, said the sport’s governing body will allow the country to increase the original limit of ten.
Porto Alegre, Florianopolis, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Goiania, Campo Grande, Cuiaba, Rio Branco, Manaus, Belen, Salvador, Recife, Natal, Fortaleza and Sao Paulo are all in the running.
Fifa will evaluate the 17 candidate cities during a whirlwind one-week tour beginning on January 30th.
Sao Paulo and Rio Janeiro are expected to open and close the tournament, which may prompt people who are interested in buying property in Brazil to look at these areas.
Brazil has lifted the Jules Rimet trophy a record five times and last staged the World Cup in 1950.
The country has produced some of the legends of the beautiful game, including Pele, Ronaldo and Kaka.
