First Dubai-Brazil flight route opens
The first ever direct flight from Dubai to Brazil made history when it landed in the Latin American country.
The Emirates flight, which is not only the first between Dubai and Brazil but also the first direct flight between the Middle East and South America, left from Dubai International airport and landed in Sao Paulo yesterday.
A Boeing 777-200LR will serve the route, which takes approximately 15 hours and 30 minutes. The aircraft can seat 216 economy class passengers with a further 42 first class customers.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chief executive of Emirates Airlines, said: "We look forward to developing closer ties with Brazil and we thank the Brazilian Government and airport officials for making this route possible."
He added that the flight marked an important milestone for the government-owned airline which was founded in 1985 and now flies non-stop to six continents from Dubai.
The airline currently has 106 aircraft, employees 30,000 staff and flies to 93 destinations in 53 countries.
Passengers from over 12 countries, including China, Japan, South Korea, India, Malaysia and Australia were onboard the flight to Brazil, after connecting in Dubai.
The new flight route will provide tourists of these nationalities with easier access to the Latin American country, boosting its steadily growing tourist industry.
