‘Live as locals do when moving overseas’
An expert has suggested those moving abroad should learn to live like locals, which may be of note to those buying property in Brazil.
Rhiannon Davies, director of expatriate lifestyle magazine Shelter Offshore, suggested that living anywhere in the world can cost a reasonable amount when compared to the UK.
However, she also noted costs can increase for expatriates if they continue to stick with British brands in foreign supermarkets.
Ms Davies explained: "To retire abroad is to adopt a different mindset if you want the move to work to your maximum advantage.
"Therefore, those who save the most and make the most financial gains learn to live as the locals do."
Recent research from NatWest found 87 per cent of expatriates felt their life was better than expected when they moved abroad, with 90 per cent revealing they are better off financially.
In addition, 68 per cent feel they are healthier since moving abroad, while 63 per cent reported they would not move back to the UK.
