New Rio de Janeiro-London flight route
VRG airlines has launched a new flight route between Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and London, it was announced today.
The new route will begin on October 28th and will depart from Rio de Janeiro’s airport at 20:30 (GMT-05:00), connecting at Sao Paulo at 21:30 (GMT-05:00) before landing in London at 15:00 GMT.
Flights back from the UK will leave at 22:00 GMT and land in Sao Paulo at 08:15 (GMT-05:00), arriving in Rio de Janeiro at 10:00 (GMT-05:00)
The airline described the new flight link to the UK as "an important step in VRG’s expanding international network".
Lincoln Amano, VRG’s commercial director, said: "By December of this year, we will provide additional services to Europe through Madrid as well as to Latin America, through flights to Mexico City, Montevideo and Santiago."
Increasing levels of business travel and tourism were cited as key reasons for launching the new route.
Brazilian exports to the UK grew by nearly nine per cent in 2006, reaching a record $2.8 billion (£1.4 billion), up nearly three per cent compared to 2005.
According to the Brazilian tourist board, Embratur, England ranks ninth among the top ten countries providing tourists to Brazil.
The European country has recently become increasingly interested in property investment in Brazil.
