New link between Portugal and Brazil
A new link between Brazil and Portugal has been developed to bring the two countries closer.
From February 2008, Portuguese airline TAP will operate a new flight route between Lisbon and Belo Horizonte five times per week.
The new flights will provide Portuguese tourists with access to the historic Brazilian cities in the state of Minas Gerais and other destinations in the south-east region.
Brazil’s Minister of Tourism, Marta Suplicy, announced the new flight route through the Brazilian tourism institute, Embratur.
She said: "The new flight will, without doubt, guarantee greater accessibility to foreign tourists who come to Brazil for holidays or business and therefore tourism in Brazil will feel an enormous impact in the turnover of restaurants, taxis and hotels."
TAP airlines already operates flights to seven Brazilian cities, including Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Brasília, Salvador, Recife, Fortaleza and Natal.
Embratur’s president Jeanine Piers said that the new flight link would "strengthen the partnership between Brazil and Portugal" and invite more European tourists to the developing nation.
