Pop star Madonna states love for Brazil after securing charity donation
Pop star Madonna has secured a huge funding boost to help set up a children’s charity in Brazil.
The Like a Virgin singer has been given a £4.1 million donation by Brazil’s richest man, Eike Batista, to form the Success for Kids charity.
Earlier this week the star was invited for dinner with Mr Batista at his estate on the island of Angra Dos Rios, where she told Brazilian property owners that she "worshipped" the country.
Mr Batista, who has an estimated fortune of £4 billion, offered the money to Madonna after asking how much more she needed for the project, leaving the singer in tears.
Accompanied by her Rabbi throughout the trip, Madonna was expected to meet her Brazilian boyfriend’s parents, but confirmed before the visit that she was going to South America for "fundraising and humanitarian purposes".
Madonna’s venture into Brazil could provide a huge boost to the country, with previous investments in adopted children’s homes in Malawi already bearing fruit.
