Property owners could earn more

Owners of foreign property in emerging markets such as Brazil could be making more from their investments by renting them during the holiday season, according to industry experts.

According to new figures published this week, more than 30 per cent of holiday home owners visit their properties just twice a year and fewer than 15 per cent have considered renting their holiday homes.

Property expert Chris Green said: "Inflated property prices in the UK and Ireland means that many buyers have been priced out of their home market, hence a major shift in the volume of British and Irish buying abroad; both the seasoned property investor and the lifestyle buyer.

"But so many property owners use their property exclusively and for such a short period, failing to tap into a huge income generator by renting out their property. Depending on the type of property, this can equate to an average £200 per week or £10,000 per year for a one bed roomed apartment. This in turn could fund any financial commitments for their properties at home or abroad."

Brazil’s tourist industry is currently growing at a rate of 7.2 per cent per year, creating huge potential for homeowners in the country to rent their properties to holidaymakers.
