Solicitors ’should be used’ for property transactions
People buying property in Brazil should use a solicitor, according to an industry expert.
As those purchasing in the country may encounter a language barrier, using legal assistance in transactions is essential claims Dan Johnson, director at property portal TheMoveChannel.com.
"In terms of administering the property once you own it, it’s definitely going to be easier to deal with tax returns and other bits of administrative paperwork," he said.
Mr Johnson stressed that procedure should remain the same as completing a transaction at home as "you wouldn’t buy in England without a solicitor."
Carter Allen reported in September 2008 that over three million people are likely to purchase foreign property in the next two years.
As many as 2.8 million people currently own property in Brazil and elsewhere abroad, according to the survey, with half a million of those saying they only chose to buy as an investment.
