Tenda sales rise 50% on back of Brazilian property plan
Brazilian property builder Construtora Tenda’s sales rose by 50 per cent last month due to a boost from the government’s housing plan, according to the company’s chief executive.
Carlos Trostli, who heads up the Brazil real estate company, said the Lula administration’s measures and improved employment numbers led to sales going up by half compared to March, according to Bloomberg.
"People have more faith in the economy and there’s a huge amount of incentive to buy a house now," he added.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced the plans to spend 34 billion reais (£10.8 billion) on building one million homes for low and medium-income workers in March.
Lower-end buyers account for two-thirds of Tenda’s sales, according to the news provider.
Meanwhile, Tenda owner Gafisa, one of the leading builders of property in Brazil, recently announced a rise in net operation revenue for the first quarter of the year, registering an income of 541.9 million reais (£171 million).
