World Social Forum ‘held in Brazil’
Social activists have gathered in Belem to attend the World Social Forum, where environmental concerns will feature heavily, investors looking for Brazil property may be interested to know.
An alternative to the World Economic Forum, Davos, the presidents of Brazil, Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador will be in attendance.
The group will discuss anti-globalisation efforts, protection of the Amazon basin and women’s issues.
Its theme is "another world is possible" and attendance is expected to reach more than 100,000, which may interest those looking at property in Brazil.
Oded Grajew, the founder of the Social Forum and former businessman, tells Bloomberg the country’s president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has "picked sides".
"Lula doesn’t want go to Davos and hear the same ideas that led the world into bankruptcy," he claims.
In other news which may interest those looking at Brazilian property, the theme for the country’s 2009 Global Travel and Tourism Summit will be "Real Partnerships – Energising Economies".
