Worldwide hotel group to build in Natal
One of the world’s largest hotel groups, by number of rooms, has announced it is to build a 13-story hotel in the Brazilian city of Natal.
InterContinental Hotels (IHG) will build a 160-room Holiday Inn Express in the city, which is the capital of Rio Grande do Norte in the north-east of Brazil.
With a population of around 800,000 Natal is considered to be one of the best tourist destinations for both Brazilian and foreign travellers, due to its wealth of golden beaches.
Alvaro Diago, area president of IHG Latin America, said: "The opening of this hotel marks IHG’s 15th property in Brazil and we look forward to growing our brands in key cities such as Natal, which offers one of the most stunning and natural surroundings on the earth next to a growing metropolitan area.
"We are also very excited to have Praiamar Empreendimentos Turisticos Ltda become part of the IHG family; we really look forward to doing business together with them."
Praiamar Empreendimentos Turisticos Ltda will manage the hotel, which will feature an outdoor swimming pool, recreation area and fitness centre, under a license agreement with IHG.
As well as its beaches Natal is also a "very historic" city with buildings dating back to the 17th century including the Fortress of Wise Kings, which took 30 years to build and was completed on Three Kings Day, January 6th 1598.
Holiday Inn Express is a low-cost hotel aimed at travellers, providing a "fresh and uncomplicated" service.
Currently the hotel chain’s portfolio includes more than 1,700 hotels throughout the world and in the past year Holiday Inn Express has opened in Puerto Montt, Chile and Medellin, Colombia.
