Beckham puts Brazil on the map
David Beckham helped raise Brazil’s international profile this week as he announced plans to open a football academy there.
The "cream" of Brazilian society is reported to have visited the north-eastern region of Natal – currently tipped as a hot property investment spot – to take a tour of the prospective site where Beckham’s academy will be.
Brazil’s first "David Beckham World of Sport" is designed to be a professional sports complex that will benefit from the 32-year-old England midfielder’s input.
The centre will also, no doubt, put north-east Brazil in the spotlight as the high-profile footballer continues to offer his support to the budding sports stars at the academy.
David, who is married to Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, said: "I am honoured to be associated with this incredible project which will build world-class sporting facilities in Brazil."
He added: "[It will] hopefully have a major impact at a local level and internationally,"
The cost of living in Natal is said to be 20 per cent lower than in the UK and over the last five years house prices in the area have increased by over 20 per cent.
