Brazil and Britain to strengthen sporting ties
The Brazilian Football Confederation is to strengthen its ties with its British counterpart, Gordon Brown announced during his visit to the country.
Mr Brown met with Brazilian football legend Socrates at the Pacaembu stadium in Sao Paulo, where they revealed the plans for the UK’s football association to help with the training players and referees.
The two countries will also exchange knowledge and experience of holding major sporting events in preparation for them hosting two of the biggest competitions in the world, Mr Brown said.
Brazil is hosting the World Cup in 2014, which Britain hopes to secure in either 2018 or 2022, while the South American country has bid to host the 2016 summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s bid committee presented to members of the Olympic Family and international sports figures this week, outlining its vision for the Games.
Carlos Nuzman, president of the panel, said the country can build a bridge between London 2012 and Rio 2016.
