Brazil hosts grand final of ISAF Nations Cup
Brazil is playing host to the grand final of the 2009 International Sailing Federation’s (ISAF’s) Nations Cup this week, with the opening ceremony taking place today in Porto Alegre.
France, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, India, Finland, the US, Argentina, New Zealand, Italy, Australia and Brazil will be represented in the open and women’s competitions at the Veleiros do Sul sailing club following regional finals in Asia, Europe, Oceania, North and South America last year.
"It’s fantastic to be here in Brazil for the finale of the 2009 ISAF Nations Cup. The organising committee has done a fantastic job in preparing the venue and welcoming the sailors to Porto Alegre," says Sally Burnett, chair of the sport’s governing body, and chief umpire of the grand final.
Crews will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the conditions in the racing area on the Cristal Bay in Guaiba River, in southern Brazil.
Last week, James Gonzalez, market analyst at Obelisk Investment Property, said those who own real estate in Brazil can benefit from the country staging major sporting events.
