Brazil property owners to lead way in curbing greenhouse emissions
Owners of Brazilian property will get to help the country lead the world in cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
The Guardian reported that the Brazilian government is aiming to curb its own emissions by 2020 as a "political gesture" aimed at pressing rich nations into agreeing to large cuts in carbon output.
Chief of staff in the South American country Dilma Rousseff said that it would take proposals for voluntary reductions of between 38 and 42 per cent to the Copenhagen climate change summit next month.
Rousseff still believes that it is up to the developed countries to lead the way in reducing their emissions.
"We are already an example to the world. But the fact that we are going to announce a significant objective does not mean we do not know that the responsible ones are the developed countries," she said.
Brazilian property owners will be pleased that half of the country’s proposed cuts will come from a reduction in deforestation, which is usually undertaken for commercial and speculative interests and exploitation of forest resources.
