Brazil real estate to reap benefits of extra Olympic sports
Brazilian property owners could benefit from extra sports fans coming to the country in 2016 with two new Olympic sports set to be named.
It is expected that golf and rugby sevens will be confirmed today for the 2016 event, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro.
The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC’s) executive board voted in favour of including both sports in the programme for the Rio games.
However, 106 members are set to vote on whether the move will go ahead, with each sport needing a 51 per cent majority to be approved.
Rugby sevens has amassed a large following in recent years, which will be good news for Brazil real estate owners, as thousands of fans could travel to South Africa to watch the event.
Golf was last seen in the Olympics in 1900 in Paris but has never returned to the agenda.
IOC president Jacques Rogge said in August that he believed that winning a gold medal would be just as important as winning a golf tour title, despite the traditional lures of the four major championships.
