Brazil takes case for Rio 2016 Olympics to Europe
Brazil’s Olympic committee is taking its case to Berlin for the World Championships in Athletics, where representatives will promote candidate city Rio de Janeiro.
The panel will present the case for holding the 2016 Games in Brazil at a stand set up in a leisure area outside the Berlin Olympic Stadium, where the championships are taking place.
Agberto Guimaraes, sports general manager for Rio 2016 and a finalist in the 800m at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, said attending the event will be a learning opportunity for the committee.
"We will be keeping our eyes open and exchanging ideas for enhancing the Rio de Janeiro project," he explained.
"Our delegation includes representatives from the top three echelons of government, stressing the importance of this event for Rio 2016," added Carlos Arthur Nuzman, president of the committee.
Luiz Barretto, the country’s minister for tourism, recently announced that the commercial Brazilian property market will benefit from $160 million (£96.8 million) of funding to boost the hotel sector in the south-east.
