Brazil to host global travel and tourism summit
Industry leaders and government representatives will converge on Brazil next month for the ninth Global Travel and Tourism Summit, in which they will debate measures to stimulate economic recovery.
The two-day event will take place in Florianopolis, the capital of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, between May 15th and 16th.
It is the first time the summit, hosted by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), has been held in Latin America and Jean-Claude Baumgarten, president and chief executive of the organisation, said the WTTC was "delighted" the meeting was travelling to Brazil.
Mr Baumgarten added the state "offers enormous promise in terms of tourism development and opportunities for investors in travel and tourism, whether from Brazil or other countries".
Transforming economies and removing barriers towards global integration will be two of the main themes at the summit.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian tourist board will be touring the UK this summer to promote the advantages of the country to the British travel industry.
