Brazil to witness Felipe Massa’s Formula One comeback?
Brazil could become the location for one of the most dramatic returns to sport ever seen as Felipe Massa sets his sights on racing his home Grand Prix in October.
The driver was injured in a freak accident in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, when a spring came loose from fellow Brazilian Rubens Barichello’s Brawn GP car, hitting Massa on the head at over 140 mph.
After undergoing lifesaving surgery at the AEK hospital in Budapest, Massa was airlifted back to his home in Sao Paulo, where he has been working on his recovery.
Now he is aiming to make a remarkable comeback at the Interlagos track.
"I cannot wait to race again, I hope I can do the Brazilian Grand Prix," he said in an interview with local television channel Globo.
"But it’s not for me to say, it’s for the doctors, and I have to show I can be ready."
The Interlagos circuit is no stranger to drama, having witnessed Lewis Hamilton’s incredible overtaking manoeuvre on the final bend last year, which won him the Drivers’ Championship title.
