Brazil will be a key player in G20 summit, guru says
Brazil will be one of the most important countries at the G20 summit, as it represents "the future", according to an expert.
Jon Henley, writing for the Guardian, says the South American nation is one of the members that really matters in the meeting of world leaders.
He states: "Brazil. The future. Huge emerging economy and, in President [Luiz Inacio] Lula [da Silva], a hugely confident leader who is not about to be told what’s what by some guy in a suit."
Mr Henley also picks out China, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Turkey as important players in the summit, which is being held in London tomorrow (April 2nd).
In an indication of Brazil’s importance for the meeting, Gordon Brown visited the country last week looking for support from President Lula da Silva ahead of the talks.
Business secretary Lord Peter Mandelson also visited Sao Paulo, delivering speeches to industry leaders in which he praised the South American nation.
