Brazilian Ambassador talks up World Cup
The Brazilian Ambassador to South Africa has spoken of the importance of the South-American country hosting the World Cup and the effect football can have on the nation.
In a visit to a school in the Northern Cape, as part of the FIFA Confederations Cup celebrations and in preparation for the World Cup in South Africa next year, Jose Vicente de sa Pimentel said the competition means so much more than a title for Brazil.
"The impact of hosting such an event is not only related to sports, it goes much deeper than this. It has to do with the self-image of the country," he asserted.
Ambassador Pimental said the World Cup demonstrates the benefits of working together as one, adding that "this is how you make a nation".
Brazil will be taking over the reigns from South Africa in 2014, when it will host the event for the second time in its history.
