Brazilian firms could save Honda F1 team
Two Brazilian firms may become the saviours of Honda’s Formula One (F1) motor racing team, it is reported.
Oil company Petrobras and telecommunications enterprise Embratel could sponsor the F1 racers, says the sport’s boss, Bernie Ecclestone.
"I am confident that Honda will be in the first race of the year. But I prefer not to comment on it. We are optimistic about the future of the team," he told Xinhua.
He added that he is as yet unable to confirm that a deal has been made, however.
The racing team is searching for sponsors so it can guarantee both of its drivers will be able to compete in the first four races of the season.
Jenson Button will reportedly be joined by Bruno Senna, the nephew of Brazilian F1 hero Ayrton.
Melbourne will host the first grand prix of the 2009 World Championship next month and Sao Paulo will stage the penultimate race of the year on October 18th.
