Brazilian president calls for G20 ‘maturity’
Brazilian president Lula Inacio Lula da Silva has expressed his hope that leaders involved in the G20 summit will have the maturity to deal with the global financial crisis.
Mr Lula da Silva, speaking as he arrived in London by train, said everyone involves knows what needs to be done and that they must have the courage to do it.
In the build up to the summit, which commenced today, there have been suggestions of rifts between leaders, with French president Nicolas Sarkozy threatening to walk out of the talks if an agreement is not reached to regulate the global financial system.
"The only thing that I hope for is that the presidents’ meeting here have the maturity to understand that every day that passes without a solution for the crisis, more people will suffer," said Mr Lula da Silva.
Meanwhile, Jon Henley, writing for the Guardian, has said that Brazil will be a key player at the G20 summit because of its "hugely confident" leader.
