Brazilian president predicts Olympic bid victory
Brazil’s president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has said that Rio de Janeiro will win its bid to host the 2016 summer Olympics, which could provide a boost to Brazilian property owners.
The president said that Rio is currently the favourite to be given the nod when the decision is made by the International Olympic Committee in Copenhagen on October 2nd because it was the only country among the world’s ten richest never to have hosted the event.
Bloomberg reported that in a weekly nationwide radio broadcast, president Lula said: "Brazil being Latin America’s biggest economy should convince people of the good qualities that we have to host the Olympics."
President Lula has confirmed that he will be at the final presentation, which will see Rio going up against Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo for the honour of hosting the games.
Brazilian real estate owners will be hoping to reap the benefits of the games with more than 500,000 foreign visitors believed to have visited Beijing to watch the last Olympics in 2008.
