Brazilian property ‘most eco-friendly in the world’
Brazilian property is the most environmentally friendly in the world, with residents in the South American country more likely to purchase green electricity for their home than inhabitants in any other country, according to the latest research.
The Greendex survey, conducted by the National Geographic Society and Globescan, found that residential property in Brazil registered the best housing scores, while residents in all countries showed significant improvements in green ratings for their homes.
In terms of overall consumption, Brazilians topped the rankings along with India, with the countries found to be the most environmentally friendly across the categories of housing, transportation, food and goods.
"Interestingly, the economic upheaval appears to have had a silver lining for the environment," said Terry Garcia, executive vice president of National Geographic’s, Mission Programs.
Last month, Brazil’s environment minister Carlos Minc joined representatives from the G8 countries and other major powers in discussing efforts to combat global warming.
