Brazil’s emergence from global crisis will be ‘extraordinary’
Brazil will overcome the international financial crisis in an "extraordinary manner", according to the country’s leader.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said good results registered in the main economic indicators show that Brazil will soon emerge from the global downturn, according to Xinhua.
Speaking during a visit to Manaus in the northern Amazonas state, he claimed government measures to boost the automotive and construction sectors have already shown positive effects, the news provider reports.
"I think the Brazilian people have no reason to be afraid. Considering Brazil’s figures, I think the worst has already gone by," Mr Lula da Silva asserted.
He added that he is continuing to watch the effects of the crisis on the international market closely.
Mr Lula da Silva said he was optimistic that the country will emerge from the downturn in one piece.
Recent figures showed the Brazilian president is the most popular leader in the Americas, with a 70 per cent approval rating, beating Barack Obama’s score by nine per cent.
