Brazil’s Petrobras finds evidence of more oil reserves
Brazilian state-owned company Petrobras has found more traces of oil in the offshore Campos Basin.
The energy enterprise discovered evidence of the source when it was drilling a test well in the C-M-401 block, the National Petroleum Agency reported on its website.
It was found at a water depth of 976.5 metres in the area to the north-east of Rio de Janeiro.
Petrobras has not yet determined whether the oil can be developed for profit.
Meanwhile, the energy company has reported that natural gas reservoirs found in January through a consortium with Spanish firm Repsol are commercially viable.
The site, known as Piracuca, is thought to contain around 550 million barrels of oil equivalent, or a total volume "in situ" of 88.5 million cubic meters, according to Petrobras.
It is located off the coast of Sao Paulo in the BM-S-7 block of the Santos Basin in around 200 meters of water.
