Brits ‘can get great bargains on long-haul, such as Brazil’
A significant proportion of Brits are continuing to travel as normal despite the recession, but are being more savvy about the way they spend their money, according to an expert.
Bob Atkinson, travel expert at Travelsupermarket.com, said that many people are looking for bargains this year.
He explained that people journeying to long-haul destinations, for example to holiday property in Brazil, have been particularly successful in getting cheap deals.
"People who are travelling are snapping up air travel and holidays at prices we have never really seen before," he asserted.
Mr Atkinson insisted that there is still a large proportion of the UK that intends to take the same number of trips abroad as last year.
His comments follow research by the Association of Independent Tour Operators, which found that more than three-quarters of people are planning on travelling at least as much this year as they did in 2008.
It also found that 72 per cent intend to spend the same amount of money on their holiday, or even more.
