Brookfield planning Brazilian property expansion
Brookfield Asset Management has told shareholders that it plans to seek out substantial acquisitions in the Brazilian property market.
Reuters reported that the firm’s chief financial officer Brian Lawson told a CIBC World Markets Eastern Institutional Investor Conference in Montreal that the company would be looking to buy into both the commercial and residential Brazilian property markets.
"Geographically we’ll be looking again within our areas of current operations, so it would be North America, Australia, Brazil, United Kingdom, Europe, those would be the areas we would be focused on," he added.
Mr Lawson also commented that Brazil was receiving booming interest from global investors and that his company would continue to invest in power assets and retail businesses there.
Reuters also reported recently that Brookfield was looking to sell near £200 million worth of stock to benefit from investor demand.
Other real estate companies have also recently started a phase of share sales as they hope to raise about £1 billion in capital.
