Event tourists give boost to Brazilian property owners
Tourists from overseas who participated in technical and scientific events in Brazil spent millions of pounds in the country, according to new research.
Figures compiled by the Getulio Vargas Foundation, at the request of the Ministry of Tourism, found that, between September 2007 and December 2008, more than £21 million was spent.
The research was based on than 5,000 foreigners, most of whom came from the US, Argentina, Germany and England, and detailed daily expenses, income bracket, whether they stayed in Brazilian property and whether they plan to return to the country.
"The figures show that over 90 per cent plan to return and this is a great audience to work with. Apart from having high levels of income, they are tourists who are opinion makers who spend high volumes of money per day," the president of the Brazilian Tourist Institute, Janine Pires, told Brazzilmag.com.
Brazil real estate owners will experience even more visitors for technical events, as the country’s infrastructure prepares for the 2014 football World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.
