Former minister talks about Brazil’s economy
The former Brazilian minister Luiz Carlos Mendonça de Barros gave a talk about the future of Brazil’s economy yesterday.
Addressing the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in Sao Paulo, Barros delivered a talk entitled "The Perspectives for the Brazilian Economy", reports Brazilian-Arab news agency ANBA.
Now a hedge fund manager and economist, Barros was formerly the Brazilian Central Bank president from 1985 to 1987 and minister of communications in the government of former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso.
Earlier this month plans for firms in the north-eastern region of Brazil to attract Arab investments were announced as part of an initiative run by the Association for the Development of Real Estate and Tourism (Adit).
Roberto Carlos Monteiro Lopes, vice-president for Adit, highlighted the "strong presence" of European investors in Brazil and said that real-estate opportunities in the country may also be a pull for Arabs.
Emirates airline began operating the first ever direct flight route between the Middle East and South America earlier this month, making travel between the two regions easier.
