GlaxoSmithKline gives health boost to Brazil property owners
The world’s second biggest drugs company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has sealed a £1.3 billion, ten-year deal with Brazil, to distribute its pneumonia and meningitis vaccine, easing any health concerns that Brazil property owners might have.
GSK said that the Synflorix vaccine would be sold at £9 per treatment, a significant discount from the £25 treatment in Europe, due to the length of contract that has been agreed.
The price will also drop to £4 in ten years when Brazilian health foundation Fiocruz inherits the technology from GSK to start making the product themselves.
GSK has agreed the deal as part of its strategy to build its presence in key emerging markets, giving Brazil a vote of confidence that its economy is moving forward.
The Financial Times reported that Paulo Gadelha, president of the Fiocruz institute said that the technology could also be used to help it make other vaccines in the future, potentially boosting the ease of vaccine availability for owners of Brazil real estate.
