Gordon Brown visits Brazil ahead of G20
Prime minister Gordon Brown is in Brazil today to hold talks with president Luiz Inacio da Silva and leading business figures ahead of the G20 summit next week.
The British government is keen to get the support of Brazil as it sees South American countries as key to signing a deal that can help revive the economy at the meeting in London on April 2nd.
Meanwhile, business secretary Peter Mandelson has been giving a speech in Sao Paulo, in which he stressed that all countries need to come together to solve the global financial crisis.
He said confidence is key to the recovery of the markets and that Brazil has played a part in preventing worldwide systems from contracting this year.
"It is true that the only reason that global growth is the right side of zero in 2009 will be because of the engines of the emerging economies," Mr Mandelson stated.
