High-speed bullet train ‘could benefit Brazil property owners’
Brazil’s transportation ministry is planning to auction the rights to build the country’s first high-speed rail line, which is likely to improve travel for Brazilian property owners.
Marcelo Perrupato, national policy director for the ministry, said that construction of the 317-mile line will cost 34.6 billion reais (£11.3 billion), according to Associated Press.
The company that secures the contract will have to transfer technology used in the development of the network, which will connect international airports in Sao Paulo, Campinas and Rio de Janeiro, potentially benefiting Brazilian property owners.
Mr Perrupato said that the bullet train will cut the average journey time between Rio and Sao Paulo to just 105 minutes, compared to a near five-hour car trip, the news agency reports.
Construction is expected to finish in time for the 2014 World Cup, he added.
Laura Rendell-Dunn, spokesperson for Journey Latin America, recently said that travelling to stay in property in Brazil is getting much easier as airlines are increasing flights into and out of the country.
