New development in Brazil unveiled
Brazil is poised to launch an ambitious plan to use its natural resources to generate wealth while protecting its rain forest.
The proposal, unveiled by strategic affairs minister Roberto Mangabeira Unger, is known as the ‘Sustainable Amazon Plan’ and will be launched on May 8th, the Associated Press reports.
As part of the plans, which will be beneficial to the forest and its surrounding areas, the government will attempt to ensure that regional agriculturalists are provided with equitable treatment and will try to improve free-trade with the city of Manaus.
The plans could help provide a boost for the South American nation’s expansive economy, which according to one expert, could help to drive interest in property in Brazil.
Jean Marc Etlin, the vice-chairman of Banco Itau BBA, claimed that the experts were right to tip the country for future development.
"It certainly fits the bill with healthy growth, a high population and plentiful natural resources," he told the BBC.
