Brazil Property News: 9/11 showed tourism industry's 'resilience'

16th September 2008 05:03

The September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center showed how "resilient" the tourism industry is, it is being claimed.

People considering Brazilian property could be interested to hear this view which suggests that terrorism will not dampen visitor numbers to the Latin American nation.

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) maintains the world's travel industry has managed to recover from the atrocities and demand is continuing to grow.

Jean-Claude Baumgarten, president and chief executive officer of the WTTC, said seven years on demand has been growing and despite this increased traffic, security procedures still remain paramount.

According to the World Tourism Organisation's (UNWTO) statistics, international tourism has grown at a rate of five per cent for the first four months of this year.

Figures released by the WTTC in 2002 showed that travel and tourism demand fell by an estimated 7.4 per cent worldwide in 2001 and 2002 compared to those years' forecasted growth.

The cost to the US economy in loss in demand was some $92.3 billion (£46 billion).
