Brazil Property News: Airline in talks to buy new aircraft

12th March 2008 05:16

Brazilian airline Trip Linhas Aereas is rumoured to be in talks with an aerospace firm over the supply of new aircraft.

According to the O Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper, the country's largest regional carrier is discussing a possible deal with Empresa Brasilieira de Aeronautica, reports Bloomberg.

The newspaper claimed that Trip's president Jose Mario Caprioli had suggested that the airline is considering purchasing regional jets to boost its current fleet of aircraft.

At present, the airline has 18 turboprop planes, the news provider stated.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Finnair had bought three jets from Brazilian manufacturer Embraer in a deal worth $112.5 million (£56.25 million).

Embraer's executive vice president Mauro Kern said that the firm was looking forward to a "long and fruitful relationship" with Finnair.

"It is always very satisfying to receive additional orders from established customers who operate our aircraft on a day-in, day-out basis," he remarked.
