Brazil Property News: Algeria aims for more Brazilian investment

7th November 2007 03:40

The Algerian minister of agriculture has said that he wants Brazilian producers to use Algeria as an export platform to the rest of Africa.

Said Barkat told ANBA, Brazil-Arab news agency, that Algeria's population of 33.4 million increasingly needs more agricultural products, which could be supplied by Brazil.

He added that Algeria could be used as a platform for Brazil to export not only to the rest of Africa but to the European Union as well.

Mr Barkat said: "There is much fertile land in Algeria, belonging or not to Algerians, which may add value to the production of items like milk, grain and olive oil, among others.

"There are opportunities in the agricultural area, in agroindustry and also in other areas."

The minister recently had a meeting with the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce where he reinforced his view that the two countries need to forge ties through investment.
