Brazil Property News: Boost for Sao Paulo's economy

31st October 2007 01:58

Sao Paulo's economy is due to receive a boost as a leading IT consortium has announced the launch of its first South American offices in the Brazilian city.

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which made the announcement yesterday, noted that it looks forward to increasing interaction with the Portuguese-speaking community through the new office.

A spokesperson for the consortium said: "Moreover, the current IT landscape in Brazil aligns with exciting current trends at W3C, such as mobile web, web applications, and video on the web."

Telecommunication Industry News has reported that around 40 million Brazilians now have internet access – the highest number of users in any Latin American country – and in October 2007 the number of wireless users in Brazil exceeded 112 million.

In a 2003 report, Brazil, along with Russia, India and China, was tipped by Goldman Sachs investment bank to have the potential to outstrip the wealth of the G6 by 2050.

The global firm made its predictions based on initiatives from the private sector in Brazil and the efforts of government agencies to promote investment in business and infrastructure in the country.

W3C is an international consortium designed to develop web standards to ensure long-term growth for the internet.
